Volunteer Opportunity: Treasurer

PoCo FC is looking for a thoughtful, organized and financially minded volunteer to join our Board of Directors as Treasurer.
This is an important leadership role that helps the Club stay financially organized, transparent and sustainable. The Treasurer supports the Board by helping us understand the Club’s financial position, review budgets and make responsible decisions for the future of PoCo FC.
This role is not about doing all of the bookkeeping. PoCo FC has bookkeeping and accounting support in place. The Treasurer provides Board-level financial oversight and helps ensure that the right questions are asked, the right information is reviewed, and the Club’s financial practices remain strong.

Reports to: Board of Directors
Location: Port Coquitlam, BC
Role Type: Volunteer Board role
Time Commitment: Monthly Board meetings, finance-related review and occasional committee work
What This Role Is Really About
As PoCo FC continues to grow, strong financial oversight is more important than ever. The Treasurer helps the Board understand where the Club stands financially, where risks may exist, and what decisions need to be made to keep the Club stable and well managed.
This role is well suited for someone who is comfortable reviewing financial information, asking practical questions and helping the Board make informed decisions. You do not need to be a professional accountant, but experience with finance, bookkeeping, accounting, budgeting, banking, business administration, or nonprofit work would be helpful.
What the Treasurer Helps With
Review monthly financial information and budget updates
Help the Board understand the Club’s financial position
Support annual budget planning with the Executive Director, Bookkeeper, accountant and Board
Help identify financial risks, trends or concerns
Support strong financial controls and responsible spending practices
Work with the Bookkeeper and accountant to support year-end readiness
Help oversee grant and gaming grant financial reporting where needed
Chair or support the Audit & Finance Committee
Help ensure financial records and reports are properly organized and available to the Board
Support long-term planning for the financial health of the Club
Who This Role Is Best Suited For
This role is best suited for someone who is reliable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with financial information.
We are looking for someone who:
Has good judgment and strong attention to detail
Can review financial reports and ask practical questions
Communicates clearly and respectfully
Understands the importance of confidentiality
Is comfortable working with other Board members, staff, bookkeepers and accountants
Wants to help the Club remain financially responsible and sustainable
Cares about community sport and wants to make a positive difference

The Treasurer plays an important part in protecting the long-term health of PoCo FC. Good financial oversight allows the Club to support players, coaches, families, programs and facilities in a responsible way.
